Tragically the loss of life from Typhoon Odette exceeds 44* and many still remain unaccounted for.
The DoT state over 90% of tourist facilities have been damaged in southern Leyte and inspections are ongoing. A worsening humanitarian crisis also unfolds with the lack of food and clean water in many areas.
Recovery efforts continue but are being hampered by poor weather, intermittent communications, impassable roads and damaged infrastructure.
