Ground Update

Super Typhoon Rai (known as “Odette” in the Philippines) made landfall on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 1:30 p.m. local time and the storm was one of the strongest recorded on Earth this year and the sixth to reach category 5.

Rai caused severe and widespread damage throughout the Southern Philippines, killing at least 400*. The typhoon was estimated to have caused at least ₱39.3* billion ($786 million) worth of damage across the Philippines.
